I just downloaded the Orchestral packs from Ableton. The Strings Ensemble Legato sample is 1.2 GB. It is an.aif audio file of a bunch of the strings sounds chained together. In addition, Orchestral Companion Strings runs as a fully compatible plug-in with any VST (32 or 64 bit), AU (64 bit), and AAX (32 or 64 bit) for ProTools 10.3 or higher Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) software. Whats your opinion on the included orchestral packs in Ableton Live 10 Suite?
I am a classical trained composer, and I think it's the time for me to dive in to orchestral libraries. In the past, I have been using Sibelius to create scores for real players, and not paying too much attention to the (almost horrible) built-in samples because they were going to be played by real players at the end. But now, I want to make 'virtual' recordings with the computer, to dive deep into this sample libraries world.
I know this is an art, not something you are able to do simply buying a new library. But I am decided to take the time to learn how to do it well.
I already own Ableton Live Suite 10, but I never tried the orchestral packs. They are samples recorded by Sonivox in 2008. Are they decent enough?
This days I have been looking videos from Spitfire and their libraries sound very very good (Albion, Olafur Arnalds,..). They are very inspiring. Maybe I shouldnt waste my time with Ableton's libraries and go directly to buy something newer?
There’s nothing like the sound of an orchestral ensemble to set the right tone for your music. Startling horns and short string stabs bring up the tension, while slow, sustained bowing and fluttering woodwinds establish a more elegant atmosphere. The only problem with orchestral sounds is that you normally need an actual orchestra to get them.
